A speculative investigation of George IV Bridge through generative image, video, 3D modelling, and printed artefacts, imagining urban maintenance after the disappearance of human dominance.

Project text

Created collaboratively by Lileas Meng, Yuqi Wang, and Xiaobin Huang, Robot, Ruin, Recode imagines a future Edinburgh in which human dominance has disappeared and urban infrastructure is preserved and maintained by robots. Taking George IV Bridge as its case site, the project explores the relationships between ruin, memory, automation, and urban preservation from an other-than-human perspective.

Generative AI was used to produce alternative spatial imaginaries across image, moving image, and three-dimensional media. These speculative outputs were translated into robotic tools and future urban artefacts through 3D modelling and printing.
