Co-visions: Tracing the Spectral Water of Leith develops two situated accounts from the same field experiment at Sandport Dry Dock.

Project text

Following the Site records Lileas Meng’s embodied and multisensory survey through walking, photography, mapping, field notation and spatial observation. Attention moves across material and environmental conditions including coping stones, moss, sunlight, sound and the absence of tidal water.

Following the Survey derives from a simultaneous video observation made by participant Qingyue Luo while following the survey process. Equal-interval still frames from the recording are combined with English translations of her spoken observations, including moments when attention shifts towards birds, dogs, sound reflections and other elements of the site.

The two scrolls share the same event and duration but are not synchronised as parallel timelines. Rather than combining both perspectives into a more complete representation, the work preserves their misalignment as part of how situated knowledge is produced.

They are conceived as operative field tools rather than objects intended to be viewed fully unfolded at once. They can be returned to the site and progressively read, handled and reactivated through further observation.
